ABOUT THE PROJECT
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India had taken a decision during a meeting of the Steering Committee held on 20.03.15 in New Delhi to implement ‘Digital Coastal Map of the Country’ to cover the entire coastline under extensive surveillance. Accordingly, West Bengal has taken steps for preparing coastal maps of the state using geospatial techniques. The study area comprises the region under the jurisdiction of 14 coastal police stations in the three coastal districts of West Bengal, viz. East Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas. The project envisages two objectives, (1) digital database creation for all the assets and (2) creation of “West Bengal Coastal Information System” using ‘Bhuvan’ (ISRO’s geoportal) framework for visualization and analysis of coastal geospatial data.
